Tour de Ricky 2024

TREVOR WILL BE TRYING TO RAISE ESSENTIAL FUNDS FOR TEENAGE CANCER TRUST BY COMPLETING THE ABOVE EVENT WHICH IS AN ARDUOUS 130 MILES IN ONE DAY CYCLING CHALLENGE

Trevor Readman from Watford will be doing a cycling challenge, the Tour de Ricky on June 1st 2024 to raise essential funds for the charity Teenage Cancer Trust. He is hoping to raise over £1000 to support Teenage Cancer Trust and their vital services for young people with cancer and their families.

The challenge departs from Maple Cross, Hertfordshire early in the morning and heads north towards Milton Keynes with a quick stop at Mursley around 30 miles in. The route goes north west to Silverstone, passing the race track then turning south west towards Benson, on the Thames in Oxfordshire. There is then more climbing to get through the Chiltern Hills, passing through Marlow, Cookham and Gerrards Cross before reaching the finish line back in Maple Cross. In total the ride is 130 miles and includes nearly 6250ft of climbing. Trevor is aiming to complete the challenge in under ten hours.

Trevor decided to fundraise for Teenage Cancer Trust after hearing about the son of one of his colleagues who had suffered from cancer during his teenage years and as a result of his illness had to have part of a leg amputated. The charity were a great help to not only Aaron but also with the support they gave to his family to cope during such a traumatic time for all of them.

Teenage Cancer Trust’s vital services for young people with cancer are entirely dependent on fundraised income and every day seven young people in the UK (aged 13-24) hear the devastating words “you have cancer”, turning their lives upside down.

The money raised will be used by Teenage Cancer Trust to fund specialist hospital units, nurses and youth workers across the UK that provide outstanding age-appropriate care and emotional support to those in need.

Chris Rutter of Teenage Cancer Trust, says:

“Cancer is tough. But Teenage Cancer Trust’s work puts young people in the best possible place, physically, mentally and emotionally, for their cancer treatment and beyond.

We do that by funding expert nurses, support teams, and hospital units. And we're the only UK charity dedicated to providing this specialised nursing.

But we’re completely dependent on donations for all of this work, which is why we’re so very grateful to be supported by ASNU and their customers.

A huge and heartfelt thank you from everyone at Teenage Cancer Trust to everyone involved.”
